OUR STORY

From Ancestral Roots To Biotech Frontier

For over a millennium, indigenous communities across Southeast Asia revered a rare, spiky, crimson fruit that ripened only in the deep winter months. They called it the "Fruit from Heaven". Now universally known as the Gac fruit, it was traditionally reserved for momentous occasions—weddings, harvest festivals, and the Lunar New Year—where its deep red pulp was cooked into rice to symbolise vitality and longevity. But behind the cultural folklore lay a profound biological reality: this fruit was an evolutionary masterpiece, naturally rich in carotenoids and other nutrients that have made the fruit the subject of growing scientific interest.

Yet, despite its legendary status, the Gac fruit remained an unreachable regional treasure due to its extreme perishability—

until a

deeply personal family crisis

transformed it into a

global mission

Before pioneering the regional Gac fruit market, our founder Zen Chan’s world was defined by concrete, steel, and structural precision.

Zen studied architecture and spent eight formative years in Japan working within the highly rigorous building construction sector. He later returned to Malaysia to apply his international expertise to his family’s construction business. He thoroughly understood how to build structures meant to withstand the test of time.

However, life soon handed him a blueprint of a completely different nature—Zen’s family and friends fell critically ill, suffering from various sicknesses, and his close ones even suffered from eyesight problems, or even worse, a severe degenerative prostate condition.

As standard treatments offered little relief, a forward-thinking doctor suggested an unconventional remedy:

give the rare Gac fruit a try.

Desperate to help his family and friends, Zen tracked down the elusive fruit. As Zen began incorporating Gac fruit aril into their diets, he personally observed encouraging changes in the wellbeing of those closest to him. The experience that affected him most deeply was seeing a positive change in his father’s overall health and vitality.

From a Personal Discovery to a Global Mission

Witnessing this profound recovery firsthand spurred Zen into an obsessive study of the Gac fruit. Driven by a growing curiosity to understand how this remarkable fruit might benefit others, he began introducing Gac fruit to his family members, close friends, and trusted industry peers.

With that, he found a new dream—one that reached higher than any skyscraper he could ever design. Today, he applies the same Japanese principles of structural integrity, microscopic precision, and unyielding quality control to an entirely new domain:

Engineering the foundations of cellular health through the power of the Gac fruit

By viewing this ancient botanical miracle through the lens of modern biotechnology, Zen and his team of agricultural researchers from leading universities and biotechnologists turned their attention to one of the fruit’s greatest limitations—its highly perishable nature. Today, Gac Biotech Group bridges the gap between a son’s love for his family and one man’s career pivot from architecture to 21st-century cellular science innovation. They have turned a wild, seasonal crop into a stabilised, year-round asset—the proprietary “Noah” cultivar—while building a fully traceable, “Farm-to-Formula” manufacturing infrastructure, the first to commercialise the Malaysian-grown Gac fruit.

Today, under Zen’s visionary leadership as Chief Executive Officer, Gac Biotech Group operates across Malaysia and Singapore as the premier smart-farming authority and R&D powerhouse dedicated to Gac fruit. We apply the highest international standards of quality control to one mission: revolutionising agtech and building foundations for human longevity
